Stable cooperation and sharpened goals
The topic of waste management is a crucial topic in the construction industry. For the construction company M3 Bygg, collaboration with Sortera has been crucial – today up to 95 percent of their construction waste is sorted. Now the goal is to raise the bar even higher.
Working systematically with routines for sorting construction waste is part of the success.
“We have clear environmental goals and achieved last year’s goal of 85 percent. Today we are at 90 to 95 percent, which means it is time to raise our ambition,” says Milla Leinonen, Sustainability Manager at M3 Bygg.
M3 Bygg and Sortera have been working together for over ten years. The partnership has developed and is being strengthened through great commitment from both parties.
“We are part of M3 Bygg’s project and can work together towards even more ambitious sustainability objectives,” says Lovisa Curman, Sustainability Manager at Sortera.
On site at the project
Sortera is involved in M3 Bygg’s projects from an early stage and contributes with information and concrete solutions for efficient waste management.
“At kick-off meetings, we go through the project’s needs and get suggestions on how waste should be managed. There is a lot happening in material development, so it is important to have up-to-date information on how different materials should be sorted,” says Leinonen.
Traceability and logistics in focus
One of the reasons why M3 Bygg chose to continue its collaboration with Sortera is the possibility of traceability and follow-up.
“We can easily track and follow the waste and issue reports via their customer portal, which makes our accounting easier. In addition, Sortera is well-organised and has a high level of service,” says Leinonen.
Sortera’s expertise in logistics is also an important asset.
“They can coordinate transport for different materials and handle certain types of hazardous waste, which is a big advantage,” says Leinonen.
Better working environment and focus on more recycling

Proper waste management also contributes to a better working environment. By involving Sortera on site early, they can suggest solutions such as handling certain waste directly on site, for example with vacuum trucks, which saves time and provides better control over the material.
“This leads to a better working environment and time savings right from the start,” says Leinonen.
M3 Bygg also sees potential in stepping up its work with recycling.
“We have dialogue with the customer on what can be recycled and we strive to develop the project accordingly. Here Sortera can help us find the right recipient for the material through its contact network, which opens up new recycling opportunities,” says Leinonen.
